Choir of Angels: Cherubim

The second choir of angels are the Cherubim. The word is from the Akkadian language and means ‘one who prays’ or ‘one who intercedes’. They were the first angels mentioned in the Bible, being placed at the gate of Eden to keep Adam and Eve from returning. They are known as the record keepers who express their love of knowledge and wisdom by helping to carry out the will of God.

The name Cherubim means “fullness of knowledge” or “effusion of wisdom”. This choir has the power to know and contemplate God, and the capacity to understand and communicate divine knowledge.

Cherubim are not the cuddly babies that we currently imagine. They are the second highest choir, fierce beings that were the guardian to the gate of Eden, depicted replete with flaming sword and fiercy countenance. The first of all Cherubim was Lucifer, leader of that Choir before his rebellion and fall from Grace. During that first and brutal war the rest of the Choir fell and no more remain living in heaven. Lucifer is the only Cherubim that still lives and he is downcast and fallen from Grace.
